Freedom was callin,

Freedom was what I wanted and needed for me and my people,

Freedom was something that they never wanted to give us,

I answered that call,

Heard that the North had the Freedom I was seeking,

Couldn't keep watching my family and my people be beatin, torn down, and die,

Freedom was right around the bend,

Freedom was getting louder,

I went first,

I held on to the weight,

Held on to the hope,

Held on to the thoughts of freeing my people,

I came back several times,

Came back and saved as many as I could,

I'm a nurse, a spy, a union scout, and so much more,

My name is Moses to so many,

My name is Harriet to those that are close to me,

Freedom was callin,

And I answered,

Freedom was what I needed,

I was born a slave,

But died a free Black Woman.

 I am the fire that burns within,  I burn the impurity that is poisoning the soul, I burn and burn until there is no more life left, When all seems bleak and unclear I emerge from the ashes brand new, I am the new beginning, I am that new breath of fresh air, The old me died within the fire, Died with the burning ember within my heart, Died knowing it will all end soon, Only to rise to shake off the ash of the old, To spread my fiery wings across the darken sky, To inspire the change that is needed, To encourage hope, To brighten the way to the new life that has been granted, I am the fire that burns within, I am.... I Remember That Night

I remember, I remember how it felt when they hurt you, They put you in a kind of hell that took you from my arms, They kept gnawing at the threads like the rats they are, I remember, I remember your heart shattering right in front of me, They couldn't see what they did was wrong, They said things that not only affected you but I as well, They took my world from me that day, They didn't take you physically but mentally, By doing so they left me feeling like I wasn't good enough, Left me feeling like I should not be with you, Had me second guessing my abilities to be around a child, Had me doubting I was a good person, Had me believing that no one should be with me or around me, I remember, I remember that night where you didn't know if you could trust me, That night for me was as awful, I saw the life being drained from you, I saw your heart shatter into pieces, That night was also the night I felt like I lost you, Lost you not only by what they did but by my own insecur...
